Your customized bag is now! – Sophie Recour
For our latest update, LPB had a talk with creative designer Sophie Recour, a driven personality with a passion for leather and accessories.
Sophie creates leather bags that are timeless, functional and adjustable to the client needs.
She started many years ago as a designer for Kipling and owned baby shoe brand Padoum.
Working so close to the fashion industry, she noticed the fast changes of global design.
In the years that followed, Sophie learned all about pattern making and created her own label and (hand) bag collection.
She designs and creates all items by herself. The customer can have their say on the design by choosing color and details.
In the end the clients gets a customised design. In her own style she creates the functionality the client requires.
“Leather is a natural product, I like how it softens up and gets a beautiful patina in time.”
As owner of the HIB Label (Handmade In Belgium), Sophie wants to bring attention to Belgian handcrafted products.
As a wink to this label, she produced a bag that comes in the Belgian national colors black, yellow or red.
Currently, a shoe collection is on its way which plays with the same idea underneath.
A suitable shoe for every type of woman that’s adjustable with differend types of straps and laces.
“Belgian shoe production is very rare these days. I’ve been searching for the right parts to get the perfect height and support.
The challenge to build this shoe with my own hands is making me believe even more in this product.
Before presenting my collection, I always test the prototypes myself so I can make the right choices about fit and detail.”
A collaboration with graphic designer Annelies Van Oost gives space to experiment with patterns an colors.
From notebook covers to all kinds of bags and even furniture upholstery.
Their collaboration can be seen soon in an upcoming exhibition their working on.
You can find her work in Solarshop, hip.tique, Ydee and Belgunique.be (coming soon)
or on sophierecour.be
